Do hemorrhoids "run in the family?" |
There's no conclusive evidence, but some families do seem to have more trouble with hemorrhoids than others. Family diet may be partly to blame. |

What other conditions may feel like hemorrhoids? |
Sometimes a small split or crack occurs in the skin near the anus (anal fissure), often caused by large, hard bowel movements. People also suffer from moderate or severe itching in and around the anus (pruritus ani) that is not caused by hemorrhoids but may be due to heat and tight-fitting clothing, improper hygiene, soaps and detergents and stress. |

Can I use Preparation H if I am pregnant or nursing a baby? |
As with any drug, if you are pregnant or nursing, you should consult your physician before using this product. |
Back to FAQ index |
How should I store Preparation H? |
Store at room temperature or in a cool place, not over 80°F. This is especially important with suppositories to avoid melting, as suppositories must soften at body temperature. |
Back to FAQ index |
Why don't some Preparation H products include applicators? |
These products are indicated for external use only and are not to be inserted into the rectum. Therefore, the package does not include an applicator. An applicator is included with Ointment as it is indicated for use within the rectum. An applicator is included with Cream as it is indicated for both external use as well as application to the lower portion of the rectum. Suppositories do not come with an applicator as they are to be inserted directly into the rectum without the use of a device. |
Back to FAQ index |
How can I clean my applicator? |
The instructions indicate that the applicator should be cleaned after every use. We have found that the applicator can be cleaned most successfully by washing it with rubbing alcohol, followed by a thorough rinse with plain water. Be sure to rinse well with water, as the alcohol might cause a stinging or irritating sensation if it comes in contact with delicate rectal tissue. |
